Free Seminar on the "China Multigenerational Panel Datasets Series"

All Summer Program participants are invited to attend a special seminar exploring the China Multigenerational Panel Datasets Series (CMGPD). 

The CMGPD project links historical and contemporary archival sources, social surveys, genealogies, inscriptions, and oral histories to create large individual level panel datasets extending from late imperial to contemporary China. The research emphasizes how, despite recent profound political, social, and economic changes, many distinctive institutions and patterns of demographic behavior, stratification, and social mobility persist from China's imperial past.

The seminar will help interested researchers assess the suitability of the CMPGPD for their research topics. No prior quantitative training or knowledge of Chinese history is required. 

The seminar is free and open to all ICPSR Summer Program participants. Lunch will be served. Bring your own laptop if you want to access the data during the workshop. The datasets, documentation, and training guide are available from ICPSR.
